Mos Generator to shred again

19 Feb

~ The storied Port Orchard band returns Saturday @ Winterland ~

It’s been about a year since we’ve heard much of anything from Port Orchard Seventies Rock Preservationists Mos Generator.

Following an opening spot w/ Rush @ The Gorge and a European Tour with Texas band Blood of the Sun over the summer of 2008, Mos has been on hiatus without any official word on what was going on. The three-piece had found itself at odds amidst the rise in demand for the band.

“We hadn’t talked in pretty much a year,” said guitarist/vocalist Tony Reed. “But the hiatus. . . we all like each other, you know, it was just, I wanted more from the band. I wanted to go on the road more and stuff.”

But drummer Shawn Johnson, being a business owner/manager in Port Orchard, wasn’t able to afford as much free time. So, midstride, the band stopped and all but dropped off the radar for the better part of year. Continue reading

~Stone Axe | Rudis Puella~

Here’s a bit of what you might have missed — or injected — at last weekend’s Stone Axe show @ the community-salvaged Winterland. Rudis Puella’s got you covered with a full on photo assault from the show, up now in Thee Smokestack In Photos.

Plus Sledge has a review of the madmen of Stone Axe — in addition to the Bombing Campaign and MxPx’s new EP ‘Left Coast Punk’ — in the Smokestack’s upcoming Second Print Edition…. out on Thanksgiving.

Winterland Survives — Stone Axe Tonight!

20 Nov

Late last night Winterland sent out the good word that thanx to the community’s support, once again, they will remain open, despite another threatening bout of financial woe.

Which means: Stone Axe— who’s last show at the Winterland was cancelled on a count of swine flu — will be rocking the joint tonight (Nov. 20, 21+, $5) with Madmartigan and Pivot Point, before heading out to the Showbox in Seattle tomorrow.

Weird Night … Weird Art

7 Nov

It was a weird night for rock shows last night in Btown… First off the sour news that Stone Axe had to cancel their Winterland gig with the Missionary Position and The Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank reportedly because their bass player is quarantined with swine flu.

The New Old Stock stepped in last minute. Tonight, Nov. 7, the heavy-handed Bremerband Madmartigan fills in for the Axe with Pivot Point at the Beachside in Port Orchard.

From the upcoming calendar, it looks like Stone Axe should be back in action next week — Nov. 13 at the Bit in Ballard and Nov. 21 at the Showbox. Find details and such at their space… myspace.com/stoneaxe.

In other weird music news… word had it at last night’s psychobilly show at the Charleston, that after a short reunion this year, Wreckin Machine is done for good… again.

In homage to all the weirdness I spent the morning drinking coffee and staring at Dave Ryan’s Manticore Stencil Art @ Olympic Coffee in East Bremerton.

And speaking of Mochas with a Manticore… here’s a weird story about Dave Ryan’s wicked awesome work (from our Debut Print Edition). . . . . Continue reading
